The summer holidays are nearly upon us! And with six weeks or more to entertain the kids, it’s not always going to be plain sailing…I’m sure at some point during your summer break you’re going to hear the words “I’m bored” …so, you need to start thinking ahead and planning what activities you’re going to do to keep the children busy.
Sure, you can take them to the zoo, theme parks, petting zoos, swimming pools etc – but all those days out cost a lot of money and you might need to be a little more thoughtful with your budget if you have six weeks to fill with activities. But don’t worry – you won’t need to cash in an investment piece in order to finance your summer fun (check out Golden Eagle Coins for the latest in investment pieces) I’ve come up with 5 budget friendly summer activities that the kids will love.
Have fun!
Create your own water park
As mentioned above, water parks are great fun but they’re also costly. So, why not create your own at home instead? All you’re going to need are a couple of paddling pools, some water toys, a slip and slide, maybe even a sprinkler or two. The children will love getting wet and having lots of fun – it’ll keep them busy for hours. You could even organise some races or even obstacle courses for them to enjoy – all under your supervision of course.
Bake
Yes it’s summer but on those inevitable rainy days you’re going to need something to keep the children busy. Everyone loves baking, so you could set up age appropriate tasks for everyone, whether that’s measuring the ingredients, mixing them all together or spooning them into a baking tin. Don’t forget everyone can help clean up and lick the spoon afterwards!
Head to the library
Most libraries have reading challenges for children on during the summer holidays. And it’s a great way to keep them busy for the afternoon while they choose some books and it’ll also help to keep their reading skills up. See what other activities the library is hosting over the summer break – such as a pop up cinema, play performances and other creative sessions and note them down in your diary.
Go for a walk
The kids might moan and groan but heading out on a family walk is 100% free and guaranteed to burn off plenty of energy. Head to a place where you don’t have to worry about traffic and let them loose! Don’t forget to take a picnic and plenty of refreshing drinks so you can stay all day.
Set up a home spa
It’s easy to set up a home spa for everyone to have fun with. Fill a bowl with bubble bath and oak your feet, have a nail polish station and even a hairdressing chair. You can spoil the kids, or they can pamper you for a change! They’ll love it!
