Nanay’s birthday is on May 20, she will be turning 69 this year. It’s very timely that her birth month is also the time when all mothers are celebrated all over the world. It’s a tough job but with a lot of love and patience, our mothers become the superheroes of our everyday lives. Oh, I don’t know what my life is like without my Nanay.

GIRL POWER!
Since it’s Nanay’s month, let’s have some fun and enough of dramas. Please indulge me in sharing some endearing facts about my Nanay.
1. She is expert in text-speak.
Me: Nanay, saan ka na banda? Nasa mall ka na?
Nanay: D2 na mi. o0 d2 n k SM —> take note of her o0 – she uses letter “O” and zero “0”Me: Antay mo na lang kami dyan saglit. On the way na kami.
Nanay: K
Alam mo yung you made an effort to type the words completely kasi nga baka hindi nya maintidihan yung textspeak, tapos mas magaling pa pala sya mag-text kesa sayo :p…. Buti na lang hindi pa nya alam ang JEJE speak.
2. Her sinigang and nilaga tastes the same.
She cannot tolerate overly sour sinigang broth. That’s why every time she cooks sinigang, she puts very little sinigang mix you can hardly tell if it’s really sinigang. Malalaman mo na lang na sinigang pala because there is labanos in it.
3. Her sentence is full of ANO and KWAN.
Like a typical Pinoy, Ano and Kwan is part of her sentence yet I still understand her.
Nanay: Tumawag pala kanina si ANO, tinanong kung nakakuha ka na ng KWAN.
Sasagot naman ako: Opo, ‘nay :p
4. Nanay is a mastectomy survivor.
Nanay underwent mastectomy 3 years ago. Her right breast was removed because of a malignant tumor but it’s not breast cancer naman. She had a lump in her right breast since we were young but she was too scared to undergo surgery. Later on, I found out that her primary reason why she resisted on having surgery is because there will be no one to take care of me and my brother once she’ll be in the hospital :(….
That’s my Nanay, self-less and loving. She may not show her affection through words, but she shows it by her actions. She is gentle, not the nagger-type. Her unconditional love makes her endearing in so many ways.
This Mother’s Day, it’s time for her to just relax and enjoy. She won’t cook because we’ll take her to Jollibee and have Chickenjoy!!! Did you know that our favorite Jollibee Chickenjoy has a price rollback?
1-piece Chickenjoy with Jolly Spaghetti SOLO is now Php 99 – that’s Php 18 saving
1-piece Chickenjoy with Jolly Spaghetti Value Meal is now Php 109 – savings of Php 13
It’s the perfect time to go to Jollibee because our favorite langhap-sarap pair is made more #ChickenjoyAffordelicious. With only Php 99 per meal, I won’t wait for Sunday to treat my Nanay, she can have Chickenjoy everyday.

Funny 😉 Love this post! I feel like I know your Nanay after reading it. She sounds like a lovely lady 😀
Hoping to be loved and love by your mother until death. Words cannot express about our mothers. You truly knows about her with this article.
She is Vicky!
Haha it’s so funny when the elder type text messages because they have their own shortcuts to quickly express what they have to say. Saying “Ano” and “Kwan” is very common with Filipinos, and the funny thing is that we understand it.
I can totally relate to #1! 😀 My mom is a pro in textspeak too. Nagtataka nalang ako minsan pano siya natuto eh kami lang naman ng lil sis ko madalas niyang katext. Lol! Love the “ano” and “kwan” convo of you and your Nanay~ Ang cute! 😀
Anyhow, let me greet you, your mom and all the mothers in your family, advanced Happy Mothers’ Day! 🙂
I miss my mom after reading this post. I’m an OFW so there are lots of time wherein she can’t celebrate her birthday with me. Anyways, Your mom looks so lovely, Wishing her also a Happy Birthday! The Jollibee meal looks so yummy. Hehe. Thanks for sharing.
I remember my mother too, that she cannot pronounced some new words that I’ll repeat it for her. But she’s quite funny to deal with.
My Mum is a grammarnazi like me, so she spells everything out in her text messages. Pero mahilig sya gumamit ng emojis sa Viber. Haha! 🙂
I can relate on the expert on texting since my mom texts on jeje terms. This are really interesting facts about your moms.
I miss my nanay… 😉 Great Mother’s Day post. 😉
can relate sa # 3 kasi, always may secret kami ni Nanay darti. so ganoon ang mga words nya. Sayang she passed away a year ago. wala ng ANO at KWAN.
I can relate with #3. I too is like that ever since a kid! Haha advance happy mom’s day and happy birthday to your nanay! 🙂
katuwa naman si nanay mo! am sure she’s very proud of you too! happy mom’s day to her and sayo din!
My mom also had a masectomy and had cancer two years ago and now she’s on the road to recovery.
Thank you Gigi!
Glad to hear that Franc. Happy mother’s day to your mom.
Ngayon alam ko na kung bakit ka grammarnazi :p
Thanks Sumi!
Your mom and my mom have something in common: text speak, at yung si ano may dalang kwan hahahha.
Pero baka ganto din tayo sa future LOL
I admire your mother, especially in texting. I teach my mother in using text on mobile but till now she can’t get it, she is more in calling.
Cheers to all Mother’s!
It’s amazing that your mom was able to adapt to text speak. My mom dreads the use of cellphone and still prefers the landline.
My mom is a mastectomy survivor too. When she went under the knife I was so scared then, but thanks God, hindi na nag-recur
Haha! The first one made me laugh. My mom’s almost the same; I really complete my words just in case she wouldn’t understand. Turns out she knows more jeje texts than me! Hehe.
I wonder the taste of the nilaga and sinigang! Hehe. 😀
Parehong lasang nilaga hehe
there are things that yours and my dear mom have in common 🙂
